The Awesome Day I Had With Ms.Lenahan!
Friday August 07th 2009, 7:30 pm

Ms.Lenahan called me last week and asked if we wanted to come with her and Kelly to the refuge , and my mom said yes! Then Friday came and Ms.Lenahan picked Noelia and me up from my house, but Kelly couldn’t come because of something. Then we started the day with checking the purple martins little houses.

Ms.Lenahan had the purple martins data book, she was telling Peter and Al (the helpers) the data that Peter and Al and maybe someone else did last week, so they were checking the little houses. We used papers with purple martins how they looked while they were growing up or developing. Then after that Peter told us to write about 3 sentences about what this experience that we helped the purple martins was.

We turned in our papers to him and guess what…. hes going to put our sentences in the wildlife refuge website! Isn’t that awesome! Well then after that we went in the milkweed patch and cut some or most of the milkweed plants because they with bugs (I don’t remember the names of the most insects that were on the milkweeds) and a Monarch Butterfly cant lay her eggs on a milkweed that’s filled with bugs on it! You got to know that!

Then Noelia and me took a bathroom brake. Then Ms.Lenahan found plants on the other side (in the left) and those plants were from China and the plants didn’t belong there they belonged in China! It was hard for Ms.Lenahan to take those plants out! Then we went to the car and Ms.Lenahan checked her phone messages and heard one about a baby egret that fell off its nest, so we had to go rescue it!

Then minutes later we got the egret and put it in a box, then the nice lady gave Ms.Lenahan some sardines with clams (I think) in it, and Ms.Lenahan fed the baby egret! Then after that we went to leave off the baby egret to this bird rescuer but he wasn’t there but there was another lady there and we left the baby egret there and Ms.Lenahan fed it again.

In the bird rescuers house there was a room with a bunch of animals! There was baby kittens and a big cat, ferrets, bunnies, Ginnie pigs, a crow, a blue jay, a hamster, and rats! That was like a zoo and it was awesome (and the lady had dogs to but not in that room)! Then we went to the Phoenix Diner, we ate there and we talked, we were stuffed!

Then Ms.Lenahan paid, (by the way we said thank you to Ms.Lenahan about a million times! LOL!). Then we went to school and we went up to Ms.Lenahans class and she fed the guppies and got some stuff she was bringing with her too. Then we went to the garden and it growed a lot! It look great!

Ms.Lenahan put Noelia and me to look under the milkweed leafs for Monarch eggs! Ms.Lenahan Found 3 eggs! I put them into the caterpillar container with some leafs in them too (Ms.Lenahan gave me the leafs to put in the container but they didn’t have eggs on them).

Then we had to go, we got in Ms.Lenahan’s car and drove to my house then she dropped us off and we said thank you and i hugged her and Noelia said thank you too! That’s how i spent my wonderful day with Ms.Lenahan! :P :) :D (Smiley faces)

Ivana and Jess are great singers! They’re sisters I think! :D :) :P (Smiley Faces)

Yesterday the Green Darner hatched; too bad I wasn’t here at school. In North America, Green Darners are among the biggest dragonflies. Green Darners can eat animals or insects bigger than its own size like humming bird! Heres a fact about its name! Green Darners were named like that because of their long slender bodies resembles darning needles. Green Darners were also once called “mule killer” or “snake doctors”. Green Darners can eat mosquitoes, midges, caddis flies, wasps, butterflies, bees, and other dragonflies. Green Darners are one of the fastest dragonflies. Guess What!? In the late Summer Green Darners migrate south and in huge numbers! Heres a surprising fact! Green Darners can mate in the air, on the ground, or hanging from a branch of a bush or tree. Well those were some facts about Green Darners but I still hope you enjoyed!

This pictures is showing the mouth of a baby Green Darner (I think).

The Chrysalides Carnival

The caterpillar today was in a chrysalis that mean inside the chrysalis the caterpillar is changing into a Monarch Butterfly. I believe that the chrysalis will emerge in about a week or in 4 days. It will be very fun, exciting, and interesting to see all the chrysalides emerge at the same time. I hope our (class) chrysalides get to Mexico safe for the winter migration.
